Project Ruination is a unique stationary boss at the heart of the Sanctum Dungeon structure. This structure can be found within the Dark Soot Dunes biome, and the boss arena can only be accessed via traversing into the pipes located below, as the structure's interior is blocked by bedrock. It's tough attacks and multi-phases make it one of the hardest, but most unique bosses in the entire pack. Come well equipped, as each phase ramps up in difficulty. To properly summon Project Ruination, insert an eye of ender in the center of the arena to begin the fight.

Attacks[]

The boss has three phases and three unique attacks per phase.

  • Phase 1 is known as the Drain Phase. The boss can siphon xp from any nearby players in order to heal itself. It will also summon evoker fangs and miniature flying versions of itself that can attack and poison players. These miniature versions can be killed. It is recommended to stay moving as to not get hit by all three attacks at once. It appears the boss siphons more health the more players there are, so in order to progress to the next stage, burst damage is highly recommended here if in multiplayer.
  • Phase 2 introduces a prototype version of Varsktech. The boss summons charged creepers with increased movement speed and reduced fuse time. It can also grant nearby players hunger and slowness x10 for a second and create shockwaves of instant damage effects.
  • Phase 3, the final phase, tears the seam between dimensions asunder and Voidbreach activates. The boss can trap the player in falling black concrete powder blocks and grant them blindness while rotating the player's perspective away from where they were originally looking. During this phase, the boss will also summon flying squids that attack players and give them the wither effect. This is by far the toughest phase and can easily disorient the player within seconds. Be careful not to get trapped in powder blocks and bring golden apples as the wither effect gets applied very rapidly via the squids.

Post-Battle and Loot[]

The Boss drops three items and large amounts of xp. The items are as follows:

  1. The Shepherdess' Cloak, which is an extremely powerful leather tunic with thorns x50.
  2. The "Magnificent Mansion", which creates a large, expansive Cambrian mansion in the void for the player to explore or use.
  3. A Ruination Capsule, which is a mob spawn egg that creates a harmless mini version of the boss that flys around.

In addition to these drops, killing Project Ruination also opens access to the Cosmic Cornucopia Vault by dropping a stream of water down from a block, which has a few goodies such as an entire netherite block located at the top of the vault. Around some of the portal frames on all sides is a nod to some of the different stacked dimensions. The Nether's vault representation has 27 Wither Skeleton Skulls for players to collect.

Lore (WIP)[]

Project Ruination was a device created by Sanctum's Ancient Council as a means to test experimental technologies of The End, extremely early Varsktech prototypes, and even Voidweave.

This testing chamber was not always Project Ruination. Before its reissue as an End particle-siphoning death machine, the structure was once an embassy for establishing and preserving interdimensional treaties within the celestial crown. Inside the vault is an artistic depiction of the cosmic universe. The device below was used as a power generator for large machine cities, the vault a preservation of Outlander knowledge and understanding. The bottom blocks inside the vault represent Sanctum cities, the midway sections different rooms to the dimensions, now inactive, and the top a ring of blocks representing the various Mods.

After The Council had successfully used the Embassy to kill The Builder and syphoned away his divine energies for themselves, chaos erupted from the immense transfer of power and the surrounding terrain was vitrified by an immense electrical discharge.

In the chaos, one of two doormen guarding the Council absorbed enough power to ascend, but only partly. The doorman's essence was splintered and scattered throughout the advanced technology of the room. Metal and metaphysical he became, able to only maintain a slight semblance of a physical form through great effort. Currently, he waits in agony for the day he can obtain enough power to fully ascend and enact revenge on the Council that betrayed his loyalty and destroyed his home. Project Ruination exists primarily in a state of dormancy, awakening only to steal away energy from any hapless adventurers who wander inside the great pyramid. The ravages of time have left their mark, and Ruination has difficulty maintaining an identity outside of being a machine.
